Yankees manager Aaron Boone taking leave of absence to receive pacemaker

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone will be taking an immediate medical leave of absence from the team so he can receive a pacemaker, the franchise announced Wednesday.

The Yankees released a statement from Boone, who is having the surgery done Wednesday.

Boone, who had open-heart surgery in 2009, explained that he has been experiencing lightheadedness and shortness of breath over the past few months. He consulted with doctors in New York and Tampa, Florida, and as a result is having surgery immediately to have a pacemaker installed in his chest, which will regulate his heartbeat.
