Mark Teixeira has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after doctors on Friday discovered a fracture in his right shin.
Teixeira, who was injured Aug. 17, when he fouled a ball off his leg just below the knee, was initially told he had a bone bruise after a variety of imaging tests. Two weeks later, when the healing process seemed slower than expected, tests showed no cracks in the bone. But another one Friday revealed the crack, which will take about three months to heal.
The news arrived a little more than two hours before the Yankees began their biggest series since 2012, four games against the Toronto Blue Jays, who lead the Yankees by one and a half games in the American League East.
