TAMPA, Fla. — Keeping their word about trying to lock up their young talent, the Yankees struck a long-term contract extension with center fielder Aaron Hicks on Monday. Although the financial terms were not publicly disclosed, the deal is for seven years and $70 million and begins this season, according to a person with knowledge of the terms of the contract.
Hicks, 29, had been due to make $6 million in 2019, his final year before free agency. With his new deal, he will make $8 million next season and then see a raise to nearly $10 million a year for the next six.
