A couple dozen members of the hard-bitten, not-easily-impressed news media gathered Tuesday around Bryan Mitchell, who was hit in the face by a line drive the night before, when someone asked him about his cap, which the ball ticked off before striking his nose.
“Yeah, I’ve got it,” said Mitchell, who turned his back for a moment to rummage through his belongings. He quickly produced a blue cap that had a noticeable divot along the bill, which was bent downward.
“Whoa,” many reporters gasped.
That picture might indeed be worth a thousand words describing just how fortunate Mitchell was that his injury — a broken nose and a concussion that landed him on the seven-day disabled list — was not catastrophic.
