Yankees 9, Orioles 3: Yankees, on a Roll, Sweep the Orioles

Minutes after singing Frank Sinatra and twirling the tip of his glasses in his cup of coffee to mix it, Orioles Manager Buck Showalter discussed pitching, specifically in the American League East.

“All of our pitchers, for the most part, if you look at their numbers versus the American League East — with some exceptions — they’re pretty competitive,” Showalter said, standing before his desk in the visitors’ clubhouse at Yankee Stadium.

That assertion rang hollow, at least for one game.

The Yankees, surging and a season-best 12 games over .500, winners of their last five series, pounded the Orioles’ pitchers for 13 hits Thursday afternoon as they cruised to a 9-3 win.
