BALTIMORE — The Yankees’ 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday was a much-needed one. It kept the Yankees in first place in the American League East — barely — and snapped a three-game losing streak, thanks to a winning rally that required precious little exertion — even in sapping heat and humidity.
The Yankees’ three-run fifth inning was a walk in the Orioles’ park.
Trailing by 3-2, the Yankees barely needed to lift the bats from their shoulders. Orioles starter Mike Wright walked the bases loaded before he was lifted for Brian Matusz, who walked Garrett Jones to force in the tying run.
