A free kick by Jordan Ayew into the South Korea box in the 24th minute fell to the ground amid several leaping players, and an opportunistic Mohammed Salisu booted it into the net for a classic poacher’s goal.
Ten minutes later, Mohammed Kudus leaped to meet a cross from Ayew. His head barely grazed the ball and it sailed into the net.
South Korea had dominated possession at the game’s start, with several balls in the box and off-target shots, while Ghana struggled to get any kind of attack going before its first goal.
But after that goal, which came against the run of play, Ghana seemed emboldened and South Korea stunned.
