For months in the run-up to this unprecedented free agency period, it was widely assumed that teams looking to clear unwanted contracts to open up cap space could easily do so with the amount of space available around the league. The Warriors (Andrew Bogut), Heat (Josh McRoberts), and Thunder (Enes Kanter) are three such teams.
It may be difficult, though, for these top free agent suitors to simply dump even useful, reasonably priced contracts without attaching an asset in conjunction. The issue is timing; many teams will have plenty of cap space left over and nothing to do with it once the initial music stops, but those looking to clear space for top free agents will be looking to do so during that overture.
