U.S. Striker Aron Johannsson Moving to Bundesliga

Aron Johannsson, a striker for the United States national men’s soccer team, is on the verge of a transfer to Werder Bremen of Germany’s Bundesliga, his Dutch club announced Tuesday. The move will make Johannsson, 24, one of the most high profile American players in Europe and stop a migration of top American pros out of the continent’s top leagues, at least temporarily.

Johannsson, 24, has played with the Dutch club AZ since 2013, scoring 38 goals in 84 games across all competitions. He will depart after leading the club to three important wins to end last season which propelled AZ into a surprising third-place finish and earned the team a place in the Europa League this season.
