U.S. Soccer is Still Winning (the Men, Anyway)

United States soccer is still alive this summer. On Tuesday night, two days after the women’s national team beat Japan, 5-2, to win its third World Cup in the most-watched soccer game in United States history (and three days before the Americans’ victory parade in New York City), the men’s team played Honduras in its first game of the Concacaf Gold Cup in Frisco, Tex.

The Americans prevailed, 2-1, on two goals from Clint Dempsey, as they attempt to earn an outright berth in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, a trial run of sorts for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
