U.S. Secretary of State Reacts to Brittney Griner’s Guilty Plea

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken responded to news Thursday that Brittney Griner pleaded guilty to drug charges in a Russian court.

Blinken tweeted that embassy officials attended the WNBA star’s trial and delivered a letter from President Joe Biden. Blinken added, “We will not relent until Brittney, Paul Whelan, and all other wrongfully detained Americans are reunited with their loved ones.”

Griner has been detained in Russia since Feb. 17 after she was taken into custody at an airport near Moscow for allegedly carrying vape cartridges with hashish oil in her luggage.
