Ryan Harrison, a onetime top prospect as a teenager, earned the biggest win of his life at age 24 by defeating a hobbled Milos Raonic, 6-7 (4), 7-5, 7-5, 6-1, on Wednesday to reach the third round of the United States Open.
This is the first time that Harrison, an American, has made it to the third round of a major tournament. He will play Marcos Baghdatis, who beat Benoît Paire, 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Once ranked as high as No. 43, in 2012, Harrison fell back in recent years and has not been in the top 100 since January 2014.
