NEW YORK (Reuters) - The National Football League and the players union met with a federal judge on Wednesday to provide closed-door updates on the status of settlement talks in their dispute over New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's "Deflategate" suspension.

U.S. District Judge Richard Berman in Manhattan met first with the NFL, then began meeting with the NFL Players Association. Berman had ordered the briefings ahead of a previously scheduled hearing in litigation that could determine whether Brady's ban is upheld.
