Akron (United States) (AFP) - A highly unlikely birdie at Whistling Straits' toughest hole helped Jordan Spieth boost his bid for a third major title of 2015 at the PGA Championship on Friday.

Spieth was in a bunker some 50 yards out at the par-four 18th, just hoping he could play out well enough to avoid a double-bogey.
