Union for U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Files Response in Lawsuit

Lawyers representing the United States women’s national soccer team told a federal court Monday that they opposed an expedited schedule to resolve a lawsuit filed against the team’s players’ association by U.S. Soccer last week.

The union, in a response to the lawsuit filed in United States District Court in Chicago, argued that the federation’s 2015 financial statement had conceded the key point in the lawsuit — that the women’s team, the reigning World Cup champion, does not have a valid collective bargaining agreement with U.S. Soccer — and charged that U.S. Soccer had filed “misleadingly incomplete” documentation to support its lawsuit.
