With NFL offenses incorporating more and more three receiver sets, nickel cornerbacks have gone from relative afterthoughts to starters. The position requires a different skill-set than corners playing on the perimeter. Sure, the quickness and recovery speed needed on the outside is important inside as well, but so too is awareness, physicality as a tackler and toughness.
