No. 12 Tennessee (39-11, 15-10 SEC) was victorious against a top 10 team in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll Friday to open its final SEC home baseball series in 2025.
The Vols defeated No. 10 Vanderbilt (34-16, 14-11 SEC), 3-2, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Eighth-year head coach Tony Vitello discussed Tennessee's fans in the in-state matchup Friday. 5,923 were in attendance.
"It’s a one-run game, and we’re playing at home, and there’s been some weird games where just because of the rain, or basketball, or weird start times, maybe you could argue we didn’t have a lightning bolt of energy to put us over the edge," Vitello said.
