Tony Finau’s Unorthodox Path to Tour Success

EDISON, N.J. — Tony Finau finished a television interview Friday as Scott Piercy was making his way to the nearby 10th tee for the start of his second round at the Barclays. Piercy slowed to bump the fist of Finau, whose one-under-par 69 at Plainfield Country Club had moved him into a tie for the early Friday lead in the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

He ended the day one behind Bubba Watson, who carded a 68 for a 36-hole score of seven-under 133.

Piercy, 36, a three-time PGA Tour winner from Las Vegas who joined the circuit in 2009, shares a novel page of golf trivia with Finau, 25, a PGA Tour rookie from Salt Lake City.
