Tigers 12, Yankees 4: Masahiro Tanaka Has No Complaints About His Arm, and Neither Do the Tigers

The first home run Masahiro Tanaka allowed Sunday drew an audible gasp from the crowd. It was stunning both because it came off Tanaka, the Yankees’ ace, and because the homer was a sight to behold, a high-arcing drive off the bat of Victor Martinez that finally landed about five rows into the second deck at Yankee Stadium.

But the shock wore off as the game went on and the Detroit Tigers kept pounding Tanaka. J. D. Martinez hit one home run off Tanaka that landed just to the right of the visitors’ bullpen, more than 400 feet from home plate, and then he hit another that bounced off the netting in Monument Park and made it shake like a trampoline.
