The match that proved Premiership needs a rethink

For all the talk of Premiership franchises and attracting new investment, surely something has to be done to inject greater jeopardy into the season, particularly if the league is to dispense with relegation. There was a time when teams would be involved in end-of-season dogfights to secure a place in Europe the following season, never mind fighting to save themselves from the drop.

For all the pretty moments of play, and the presence of two freshly-named British and Irish Lions in Marcus Smith and Tomos Williams, this game had no sense of ferocious cut and thrust, of fighting for every inch to salvage this season or future proof the next.
