In an odd choice that the club says came after an “organic” process, the Miami Marlins named general manager Dan Jennings their new field manager on Monday, taking over for the ousted Mike Redmond. Jennings, a veteran of the Marlins’ front office, will assume the job despite no playing or coaching experience at the professional level.
But though his hiring is something of a head-scratcher, Jennings is hardly the first unusual choice to run a big-league team.
