VANCOUVER, British Columbia — “Nothing better than being back in Vancouver!” Sydney Leroux wrote on her Twitter account Monday night.
On Tuesday, Leroux returns to B.C. Place Stadium with the United States national team for its final group match in the Women’s World Cup. Nigeria is the opponent, a skilled and speedy team, but also one desperate for a victory and vulnerable along the back line. It could be just what Leroux and the other American forwards need to awaken from their torpor early in this tournament.
“She loves the game wide open,” Coach Jill Ellis said.
