SAN FRANCISCO — Late Monday night, the old friends Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia gathered in Bartolo Colon’s hotel room. Colon and Familia had not seen Mejia in about three months, since he was suspended for 80 games for using performance-enhancing drugs, and they talked about baseball, about their families, about life. Familia had become a father since then, and although they had communicated regularly, he wanted to hear how Mejia was doing.
On Tuesday, Mejia bounded into the dugout, smiling, to speak with members of the news media on his first day back from his suspension. He did not apologize.
