Storied Trainer Hoping to See, or Hear, Triple Crown History

OLD BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — At the end of a long and winding road shaded by trees sits two brick houses owned by a father and son who have often resided at the top of the thoroughbred industry. A sign with jockey silks and the name Nerud points the way.

John A. Nerud, a trainer and breeder who was inducted into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in 1972, is 102 now and as feisty as ever. His son, Jan, is also a former trainer.
