Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve "Mongo" McMichael died on Wednesday after a long battle with ALS.
McMichael, 67, had been transferred to hospice care earlier in the day and was taken off a ventilator.
He had been diagnosed with ALS in 2021.
McMichael played 13 seasons with the Chicago Bears. They signed him as a free agent in 1981 after he spent his rookie season with the New England Patriots. McMichael ended his NFL career by playing one season with the Green Bay Packers.
A larger-than-life person and character, McMichael turned to the world of pro wrestling following football.
