Stephon Gilmore reportedly not at Patriots mandatory minicamp, but is he excused?

The New England Patriots' best defensive player is not at mandatory minicamp, according to multiple reports.

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore, whose contract status has been a matter of conjecture in recent years, was not present at the start of Monday's minicamp. Attendance for players under contract is required for the three sessions this week for New England, who is +2500 to win Super Bowl LVI at BetMGM.

Gilmore, who turns 31 in September, has one year remaining on his five-year, $65 million deal and is set to earn $7 million in base salary — clearly on the low side for a player of his caliber.
