LANCASTER, Pa. — Yani Tseng had just watched another putt go where it was not supposed to.
It was only the second hole of her first round at the United States Women’s Open on Thursday, but already there was a bogey on the card. This is when the thoughts begin to creep into her head. Would it just be an aberration or the sign of another lost round?
As she walked from the green to the tee box for the third hole, a group of women tried to encourage her.
“Come on, Yani!” one yelled.
