In another bit of defiance and hubris from the organization that has perfected those arts, the New England Patriots took the field Thursday night in their preseason opener with Tom Brady under center, in what was an obvious message to the NFL and the rest of the league — except it’s a message that’s hard to grasp, like much of the Pats’ decisions over the past seven months.
Was Belichick trying to say he thinks Brady will be playing Week 1 after Judge Berman overturns the four-game suspension?
Is he saying Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t need the work against Green Bay’s first-team defense, which didn’t play far beyond the second series for Green Bay, if they played at all?
