Sprint Cup's Chase comes to Charlotte, hoping rain doesn't follow

CONCORD, N.C. — It might be the best day of the weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Thursday's cooler temperatures and early sunshine were promising but expected to give way to spot showers that could affect practice and qualifying.

NASCAR drivers returned to Charlotte for the Bank of America 500, first race in the second segment of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Practice was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET Thursday; qualifying at 7:20.
