PHOENIX — Bobby Williams got his first break as a head football coach in 1999.
Nick Saban had abruptly resigned as the Michigan State coach to take the same position at Louisiana State. Williams, who had been with the Spartans since 1990 and on Saban’s staff since 1995, was chosen to replace him.
Williams went 16-17 in three seasons and was fired in 2002 with three games remaining in the season.
Today, Williams, 57, is riding with Saban once again.
He is completing his eighth season at Alabama as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.
