Sports of The Times: From the First Round to a Last Chance for Thomas Robinson

While N.B.A. fans heatedly debated DeAndre Jordan’s decision to spurn the Dallas Mavericks and remain with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Nets introduced their free-agent signings on Thursday in a subdued atmosphere at Barclays Center.

Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young, members of last season’s playoff team, were joined on a podium by the team’s newest signees, Thomas Robinson and the former Knick Shane Larkin.

Robinson and Larkin underline an energetic youth movement designed to allow the Nets to rebuild while trying to make another playoff run. Robinson, 24, a 6-foot-10 forward, is trying avoid the damning label of “bust,” which is all but impossible to shed once applied.
