After three emotion-filled days with the Mets at Citi Field last weekend, I was looking forward to going to the Bronx this week and watching the first-place Yankees during a six-game homestand against Boston and Toronto.
Citi Field was rocking and fans were delirious as the Mets swept the Washington Nationals, and they have followed up with three more victories in Miami.
Yet somehow it’s the Yankees whose success seems like the bigger surprise. A year after missing the playoffs, they have surged to the top with roughly the same roster. The only major addition has been Alex Rodriguez, back from his yearlong drug suspension.
