Sports Briefing | Baseball: Angels Acquire Escobar

The Los Angeles Angels acquired infielder Yunel Escobar from the Washington Nationals for the right-handed pitchers Trevor Gott and Michael Brady. Escobar played third base last season and batted .314 with nine homers and 56 R.B.I. in 139 games. As a rookie, Gott went 4-2 with a 3.02 E.R.A. in 48 games. Brady, 28, made 19 starts and 32 appearances with Class AA Arkansas, going 7-7 with a 3.77 E.R.A.

u25a0 Reliever Jonathan Broxton is staying with the St. Louis Cardinals, agreeing to a $7.5 million, two-year contract. The right-handed Broxton, 31, gets $3.75 million in each of the next two seasons.
