A potentially pivotal second day of play was under way Saturday for teams from the United States and Europe in the 41st Ryder Cup.
Foursomes began the day, with Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler taking on Rory McIlroy and Thomas Pieters in the first match.
The U.S. built a 5-3 lead on Friday, sweeping the foursome competition . Europe came back in Friday afternoon's fourball play. Its highlight: McIlroy's eagle at the 16th hole to defeat Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar, 3 and 2.
There was one rookie in each of Saturday's European pairings at Hazeltine National Golf Club near Minnesota's Twin Cities.
