Russian skaters' Olympic gold medal ceremony delayed due to positive drug test

The medal ceremony for the figure skating team event scheduled for Tuesday didn’t occur and has been delayed indefinitely due to a “legal issue”, the International Olympic Committee said.

The situation revolves around a performance-enhancing drug test taken by a Russian skater prior to their arrival in Beijing, according to the website InsideTheGames.biz. USA Today has since reported that a member of the Russian team that won gold has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

“The situation arose today, on short notice, which requires legal consultation with the [International Skating Union],” IOC spokesman Mark Adams said on Wednesday morning in China.
