Roundup: Nationals Win to Tighten N.L. East Race

Bryce Harper homered for the third straight day, and the Washington Nationals beat the visiting Atlanta Braves, 8-4, on Sunday to pull four games behind the National League East-leading Mets heading into a big series against them.

Jayson Werth hit a three-run homer in Washington’s five-run second inning, helping the Nationals to their fifth straight win and seventh in nine games over all. Yunel Escobar had three hits and scored two runs.

Five Nationals relievers combined for four and two-thirds innings of two-hit ball, with Felipe Rivero (2-1) picking up the win.

WHITE SOX 7, ROYALS 5 Adam Eaton homered and scored three times, and Chicago beat host Kansas City for a fourth straight win.
