Cleveland’s Corey Kluber struck out 18 and allowed one hit, getting his first win this season as the host Indians shut down the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-0, on Wednesday night.
The reigning American League Cy Young winner, Kluber (1-5) did not yield a hit until Jhonny Peralta grounded a clean single to center with two outs in the seventh. Kluber finished the inning with a strikeout.
Kluber’s 18 strikeouts tied the club record for a nine-inning game, set by the Hall of Famer Bob Feller in 1938. It was also the most strikeouts by an A.
