Roundup: Greinke Shuts Out Nationals, Extending Scoreless Streak

Zack Greinke extended his scoreless streak to 432/3 innings, striking out a season-high 11 through eight on Sunday and leading the Los Angeles Dodgers over the host Washington Nationals, 5-0, in a matchup of National League division leaders.

Greinke’s string is the longest in the majors since Orel Hershiser, also with the Dodgers, set the major league record of 59 straight shutout innings in 1988.

Greinke (9-2), who leads the big leagues with a 1.30 E.R.A., allowed three scattered singles, walked one and threw 119 pitches in eight innings. This was his sixth straight scoreless start, all of them lasting at least six innings.
