Madison Bumgarner hit a home run and pitched seven innings for his third consecutive win, powering the host San Francisco Giants past the Oakland Athletics, 2-1, on Saturday.
After Josh Phegley doubled off Bumgarner in the fourth to drive in a run, Matt Duffy added a tiebreaking single in the sixth, helping the Giants to their 10th victory in 11 games. The A’s have lost four of five.
Bumgarner — winner of the Silver Slugger award at pitcher last season — homered on a 3-2 pitch from Oakland starter Chris Bassitt (0-3) in the third to put San Francisco up by 1-0.
