Roundup: A’s New Cleanup Hitter Hurts the Astros

Adam Morgan held down the San Diego Padres over six innings, and Odubel Herrera had two hits and two R.B.I. to lead the visiting Philadelphia Phillies to 4-2 win on Saturday night.

The Phillies won for the 15th time in 20 games since the All-Star break, the best record in the majors. With the win and the Miami Marlins’ loss to the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia escaped the National League East cellar for the first time since May 27.

Morgan allowed two runs, one earned, and six hits, with a walk and four strikeouts.

Ken Giles pitched the ninth, earning his fifth save.
