As a star shortstop for a perennially struggling team, Troy Tulowitzki had long been stalked by trade rumors. Late Monday night, on their way to another discouraging loss, the Colorado Rockies finally moved their franchise player.
Tulowitzki is heading to the Toronto Blue Jays, with reliever LaTroy Hawkins, for shortstop Jose Reyes and three young pitchers. Tulowitzki was removed in the ninth inning of Monday’s 9-8 loss to the Chicago Cubs, which dropped the Rockies to 42-55. Only two teams in the majors – Milwaukee and Philadelphia – are worse.
“My first thought was, ‘Yes, cool,’” Hawkins, 42, told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday morning.
