Rio Olympics 2016: USA's Daryl Homer wins third-ever medal in individual sabre

Daryl Homer lost his final bout at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday, but the American fencer's silver medal stood as a historic achievement even in defeat.

Outclassed by defending individual sabre gold medalist Aron Szilagyi of Hungary by a score of 15-8, Homer could rightly celebrate even making it that far to achieve a rare feat for the U.S.

Men's individual sabre has been contested in every modern Olympics, dating back to 1896, and Homer's was only the third medal of any kind claimed in the event by an American.
