Rio Olympics 2016: Relay miscue highlights U.S. men's fall from sprinting glory

The cracks in the United States' men's sprinting program were on display for the world to see in Rio on Friday night.

Minutes after watching the women's 4x100m relay team easily retain its gold medal against Jamaica, the men's team crashed and burned several times over on its 400-meter trip around Olympic Stadium, crossing the finish line third and ultimately being disqualified for an illegal handoff.

It was just the latest example of how the United States, once the class of the men's sprinting world, has fallen dramatically over the last decade.
