Reports: Nevada to hire 31-year offensive assistant Jay Norvell as coach

After serving 31 years as an assistant at nine college programs and two NFL teams, Jay Norvell has received his first head coaching opportunity. Norvell has been hired to lead the Nevada football program after spending one season as Arizona State's wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator, according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg and FootballScoop.com, which first reported the agreement.

Prior to his time at Arizona State, Norvell coach receivers at Texas (2015) and Oklahoma (2008-14); he also helped coordinate the offense for the Sooners. He was also the offensive coordinator at UCLA (2007) and Nebraska (2004-06) after spending six years in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders (tight ends, 2002-03) and Indianapolis Colts (receivers, 1998-2001).
