Real Madrid Fires Coach Carlo Ancelotti

MADRID — Real Madrid fired Coach Carlo Ancelotti on Monday, one season after he led the club to its 10th European Cup title.

Florentino Pérez, the club’s president, said Ancelotti’s successor would be announced next week.

Madrid failed to win a major trophy this season, finishing second in the Spanish league — two points behind archrival Barcelona — and losing in the Champions League semifinals to Juventus. It also exited the Copa del Rey against crosstown rival Atlético Madrid.

“I announce that the board of directors has taken the decision to relieve Carlo Ancelotti as coach of Real Madrid,” Pérez said at a news conference after a board meeting at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
