ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Chris Capuano, recovered from a quadriceps injury, is ready to return to the Yankees any day now. Ivan Nova is on track to return next month from Tommy John surgery. Masahiro Tanaka reported no problems with his forearm, which had been strained, after he threw a bullpen session Tuesday.
So there was an urgency in Adam Warren’s outing Wednesday, with so many signs pointing toward his return to the bullpen.
In a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, Warren made a case for his remaining in the rotation, pitching a career-high seven innings and finishing with a flourish, retiring the final 10 batters, including the last two with strikeouts.
