WASHINGTON — On the back of the Rangers’ playoff warm-up T-shirts, there is a not-so-subtle reminder of last year’s Stanley Cup finals shortcoming, and this year’s mission: “Change the ending.”
After their harrowing 4-3 victory Sunday night, in which they squandered a three-goal lead and held on for their playoff lives as the Capitals unleashed a 45-shot barrage, the Rangers moved another game closer to the elusive ending they seek.
But the Rangers, in one way, find themselves with more of the same. After fighting back from a deficit of three games to one in the Eastern Conference semifinals for the second year in a row, the Rangers face yet another Game 7, their sixth since the 2011-12 season.
