The Rangers announced Tuesday they have placed the 35-year-old slugger on unconditional release waivers. Releasing him before Sept. 1 leaves open the possbility that Texas could re-sign Hamilton to a minor league contract and have him in the majors before May 15, which would not have been allowed if they waited until next month to release him.
