Racetracks Open Their Wallets in Attempt to Attract American Pharoah

OCEANPORT, N.J. — American Pharoah is undoubtedly the Big Horse. He is the first Triple Crown champion in 37 years and has looked every bit of it in winning seven of eight races in dominant fashion. Racetrack executives swoon at the mere thought of the colt circling their oval before a full house.

They have lost not only their hearts to American Pharoah, but also a significant chunk of bankroll, at least in one case, to his owner, Ahmed Zayat, and trainer, Bob Baffert.

Unsurprisingly, American Pharoah was made the prohibitive 1-5 favorite over seven rivals at Monmouth Park for the 48th running of the William Hill Haskell Invitational on Sunday.
