Preakness 2016: Two horses die in early races at Pimlico

Hours before Nyquist was to attempt to win the second leg of the Triple Crown at Saturday's Preakness Stakes, two other horses met a tragic end.

Homeboykris, a 9-year-old Kentucky Derby veteran, and Pramedya, a 4-year-old filly, both died following two of the early races at Pimlico Race Course.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Homeboykris collapsed after winning the day's first race while on his way back to the barn from the winner's circle. As a 9-1 longshot, he had expended a lot of energy to win a close race down the stretch.
